GLT on Tour Miss Nelson is Missing

Word of the Week: resilient
Definition: able to become strong, healthy, or successful after something bad happens
Sentence: Josh was resilient after having surgery on his leg.

Happy New Year! Thank you to all the wonderful PTA volunteers who made the Gingerbread Shop such a success! Our students were so proud to take home gifts for family and friends.  Many volunteers worked endless hours to make this event happen.  I also want to thank those who helped with the crockpot luncheon for the staff.  We appreciate all you do!  In addition, we want to thank PTA for funding a special opportunity coming up this month. Greenville Little Theater is coming to Bethel to perform Miss Nelson is Missing for all students on January 9 during two assemblies. This play is adapted from the popular children’s books by the same title.  We appreciate PTA for providing this educational opportunity!

Inclement Weather
In case of inclement weather, be sure to check the radio or television stations for emergency school announcements. Official announcements about Greenville County School System closings will be broadcast on WYFF-TV (channel 4) and Charter Cable Channels 14 or 99. You can also call the school district INFOLine at 355-3100 or go to the Greenville County School website at www.greenville.k12.sc.us. When schools are on a two-hour delay, no breakfast will be served. Buses will run two hours later than their normal times. School will begin two hours later than the regularly scheduled time. Instead of 8:00, the tardy bell will ring at 10:00. Please note that students will not be supervised until 9:15 when there is a two-hour delay.

K5 and 1st Grade Registration for 2014-2015
We will hold registration for kindergarten and new first grade students for the 2014-2015 school year January 13th-16th.  Parents can download the registration forms and information from our website or you may pick up a copy at our school.  Registrations should be hand delivered to the school during office hours – 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.  Parents need to provide the completed registration form, two proofs of residence (recent utility bill such as water and power), an immunization record and a birth certificate (long form).  Early registration ensures that we have enough teachers in place to accommodate our students for the fall.  Please help us spread the word in the community!

Mark your calendars NOW for a special Spirit Night on Tuesday, January 7th. Join us at Chick-fil-A on Woodruff Road where a great local company, Bricks 4 Kidz, will be hosting activities for our children at no additional cost!!  Bricks 4 Kidz  programs provide an extraordinary atmosphere for students to build unique creations, play games, and have loads of fun using LEGO® bricks. The activities are designed to trigger young children’s lively imaginations and build their self-confidence. Children work with themes such as Space, Laws of Motion, Amazing Animals and Inventions to create and build models.  Come join us and enjoy a break for cooking as we support Bethel Elementary School!  As always, Bethel PTA will receive 20% of sales from 5-8:00 pm. Please mention Bethel when ordering.

Father/Daughter Dance
Parents, mark your calendars now for February 7, 2014!  Bethel will hold the Father/Daughter Dance from 6:30-8:30 in the school cafeteria. It is truly a special night for the fathers and daughters alike.  Look for more information in your child's Friday folder soon.

Box Tops
Keep cutting those Box Tops!! Please tell your family, friends and neighbors to keep cutting to help raise money for Bethel!  The deadline for turn in will be January 31st.  The top student from K-2 and 3-5 will each win a $15 Target gift card! Send in clipped Box Tops in a Ziploc bag with your child’s name and teacher.
