CogAT and ITBS - Grade 2 Testing
The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) will be administered to students in
Grade 2 from Tuesday – Thursday, November 5 – 7. The CogAT is a nationally
standardized aptitude test which provides an estimate of the likelihood of a
student’s success in certain academic areas. The CogAT is an untimed test, but
should take approximately 40 minutes per day to administer.
The Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS) is a nationally standardized test
which measures students’ performance in reading and mathematics. The ITBS will
be administered to students in Grade 2 on Monday and Tuesday, November 11-12.
The ITBS is an untimed test, but should take approximately one hour per day. Please assist us by encouraging your child to perform to the best of his
or her ability. For more information about testing or your child’s progress,
please contact your child’s teacher.
Testing Tips
·
Please see that your child gets rest on the nights
before these tests.
·
Please make sure that your child eats a nourishing
breakfast each day.
·
Make every effort to have your child in school and
on time except in case of illness.
·
Please see that your child brings at least two #2 pencils
to school. Pencils are required for marking test answer documents.
·
Encourage your child to listen attentively to the
test administrator’s directions.
·
Encourage your child to read each test question and
each response carefully before selecting an answer.
·
Do encourage your child to stay calm if there are
questions that seem difficult. (Encourage your child to choose his/her best
answer).
·
Provide positive feedback by praising your child for
what he/she does well.

Backpack Blessings
Backpack Blessings is a program that sends home food for the weekend with students in need. The following items are needed in order to provide this program to our families. We will be collecting these items in the guidance office throughout the year: individual microwave mac and cheese or pasta, snacks (individual bags of pretzels or Goldfish, peanut butter crackers, boxed raisins or Craisins, and granola bars/fruit bars), and individual applesauce or fruit cups. Your donations are greatly appreciated!
Original Art
All students should have brought home a packet with their artwork and order form for Original Art. This is the annual fundraiser for the art department where 100% of the profits go right back in the classroom. The deadline for ordering is Monday, November 4th. You can use this opportunity to order personal Christmas gifts for your children to give to family members with their artwork on it. Orders will be back in time for Christmas. If you have any questions please contact Stephanie Yearwood at glocksandthe3bears@gmail.com.
Our next spirit night will take
place on Tuesday, November 5th from 5:00-8:00 pm at Chick-fil-A on Woodruff Rd.
Please make sure to mention you are with Bethel when ordering. Bethel will
receive 20% of all sales from 5:00-8:00 pm. Thank you for supporting Bethel!
Would you like a chance to win a Sportsclub membership?
We have reached 70% for PTA memberships, and our goal is to have 100%!
Bethel is known to have a very strong PTA, but we can only do that with your
support! Every person that joins the PTA from now until December 9th will be
entered in a drawing to win a 3- month couples membership to the Sportsclub
(valued at $417). PTA memberships are $5.00 each. You can join as many times as
you like to better your chances of winning. Family members such as aunts,
uncles and grandparents can join also. The PTA membership form is on the
website, or you can just send in $5.00 with your child’s name and teacher’s
name labeled “PTA Membership.”
Bethel Bash
It’s not too early to start
preparing for the Bethel Bash! This time of year a lot of stores have hair
paint and silly string. These things are often discounted after Halloween, so
it’s a great time to start sending these in for the Bethel Bash. These can be
sent in anytime to the PTA room. You can also begin sending in egg shells for
confetti eggs. We will be having a contest from now until the Bash for the
class that sends in the most eggs. Just send in your cartons of empty egg
shells to the PTA room and put the teacher’s name on the outside of the carton.
Empty the egg shells by tapping the end of the eggshell with a knife or
cracking a small hole in the top and then emptying the egg out when you use it.
Be sure to rinse your eggs and let them dry before sending them into school.
The confetti egg booth is one of our most profitable and popular booths at the
Bash!! Thank you for your support!
Silent Auction Chairpersons Needed
Our annual Bethel Bash is paired with the Silent Auction and will take
place Friday, May 16th from 4-8 pm. If you like to ask for donations, organize
raffles and/or auctions, and want to help out Bethel we would love to have you.
We are in need of co-chairs for the auction this year. If interested, contact
Stephanie Yearwood at glocksandthe3bears@gmail.com.
Box Tops
Keep clipping those Box Tops!! Please tell your family, friends and
neighbors to keep clipping to help raise money for Bethel! The next deadline
for turn in will be December 20th. The class that turns in the most Box Tops
will win a prize! Send in clipped Box Tops in a Ziploc bag with your child’s
name and teacher’s name.
