Congratulations to Ms. Kim Phillips!!!
Earlier this year, Ms. Phillips was selected as Bethel’s 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year.  Ms. Phillips is a special education teacher at Bethel.  Just recently she was selected as a top ten finalist for the 2013-2014 Greenville County Schools Teacher of the Year!  Ms. Phillips will participate in several activities with the judges this month – interviews, classroom visits, and videotaping.  We are extremely proud of Ms. Phillips for representing Bethel, and we wish her good luck as she continues through this process!  The Greenville County Teacher of the Year will be named in August at the Teacher of the Year Breakfast.

State PTA Reflections Award Winners
Congratulations to the following students who will receive State PTA Reflections Awards - Parker Lesher, Honorable Mention Literature, primary division; Hayley Glenn, Honorable Mention Literature, intermediate division; and Isabella Constantino, Honorable Mention Photography, intermediate division.  These winners will be honored at a ceremony and reception on May 4 in Charleston.  Congratulations!

Bethel Elementary Spelling Bee Winners
On Wednesday, April 10th, our 4th and 5th grade spelling bee class winners participated in the school spelling bee. Tayler Benton, fifth grade student from Mrs. Edlin's homeroom, won the school spelling bee. Lindsay Phillips, fifth grade student in Mrs. Manley's homeroom, was the first runner-up. Congratulations to all of our spelling bee winners!

Classroom Assignments for Next Year
Looking ahead to the 2013-2014 school year, parents will be allowed to send Mrs. Byrd a letter providing information about their child(ren). This information will be considered as the administrative team makes classroom assignments for next year. You may choose to include your child’s strengths and weaknesses and also his/her learning style. Please understand that we have many students at Bethel, and we will do our best to accommodate students’ needs when possible. Separate letters should be submitted for each child, and you are asked to submit a hard copy of your letter(s). Parents will not be allowed to request a specific teacher. If a specific request is made, it will not be honored. If you choose to submit a letter to Mrs. Byrd, please do so no later than April 30.

Box Tops
We have collected approximately 32,000 Box Tops this year!! WOW! That’s a lot of Box Tops, and we have all of you to THANK. We are still collecting so keep snipping and sending in!!

Bethel Bash
Plans are well under way to make this the best BASH ever!! May 17th will be here before we know it; so plan now to attend!! It’s the perfect family fun event. There will be new attractions, fun games, great food and a “small kid zone.” Please note that the playground equipment will be off limits to ensure the safety of all BASH attendees! We welcome all confetti eggs, silly string and hair paint donations!!

Volunteers Needed
The Bethel Bash is one of the most fun events for our students as well as our volunteers! We need volunteers the day of May 17th to help with set-up, selling tickets, selling concessions, running carnival games and rides, and much more. Please mark it on your calendar now and plan to help out and join the fun! Let us know if you're interested by emailing Lori Flaherty at loriyflaherty@gmail.com or anyone on the PTA Board, to be put on the list of carnival volunteers, and you will be contacted as it gets closer to the date.

Silent Auction
The Raffle/Auction items are beginning to come in. This is going to be an exciting event with lots of great stuff to win. If you haven’t sent in an item yet for class baskets, please consider doing so. April 12th is the last day to turn in items, and each grade level will want to have the most items donated for a chance to earn a prize. More details to follow soon! Thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing everyone at the BASH & Silent Auction on May 17!!! Joni Puckett & Bhumika Chhabra – Auction/Raffle Chairs
