Now that MAP testing is complete, we encourage parents to provide time each week for their children to access the on-line Compass activities that are individualized for every child who took MAP testing.  This web-based computer program provides differentiated instruction to meet the needs of every learner regardless of ability levels, and use of the program can help students in meeting their yearly MAP goals.  Compass can be accessed by clicking on the link on the Bethel website.

Don't forget to join the PTA!
We currently have 625 memberships sold which puts us 261 memberships away from reaching our goal of 100%. We have had 100% membership at our school for 32 years in a row – please help us to reach our goal! You should have received a membership form in your folders on Meet the Teacher night – if you would like to have another one, please contact Stephanie Yearwood at glocksandthe3bears@gmail.com. Don’t forget that you can join more than once if you are able. We appreciate your ongoing support!

Conferences
All parents will be invited to attend a conference with their child’s teacher this month.  Please be looking for this information to come home.  We usually have 100% attendance from our parents!  Research shows that children achieve more when their parents are actively involved in their child’s education.  Please let us know if we can answer any questions.  Thank you again for your support!

We have a Chick-fil-A Spirit Night planned for Tuesday, October 2nd from 5-8:00 pm. We will receive a portion of the profits. Please be sure to mention Bethel when ordering!

Original Art
Students have been hard at work in their art classes working on Original Art. This is an annual fundraiser where 100% of the profits go right back to the art department. Your child’s artwork will come home with an order form in a couple of weeks. Please be on the lookout. You can use this opportunity to order Christmas gifts for your children to give to family members with their artwork on it. Orders will be back in time for Christmas. If you have any questions, please contact Kelly Radecki at mkradecki@charter.net or Stephanie Yearwood at glocksandthe3bears@gmail.com.

Box Tops Contest
October 31st is our next Box Tops deadline. The class with the most Box Tops will win 10 minutes of extra recess. Please ask your grandparents, aunts, uncles, family friends and anyone else you can to save their Box Tops. Have your children create a cute container for them to collect them in. Our school wide goal for this year is to collect 100,000 Box Tops. This means $10,000 for our school! If we can do this then the entire school will win a school wide dance party!!!!

PTA Reflections
Reflections is a nationwide arts recognition and achievement program in which all the students here at Bethel are eligible to participate.  Each student can create a work of art based on a specific theme. This year’s theme is “The Magic of a Moment” and there are six arts areas in which students may participate: Literature, Music, Photography, Visual Arts, Dance Choreography, and Video Production. All entries are due Oct. 12th, and the rules are posted on the Bethel website under PTA.

Join in the Box Tops fun!
We have a school wide goal of collecting 100,000 Box Tops. That would mean $10,000 for our school!  Get your neighbors, friends, coworkers, aunts, uncles, grandparents and anyone else you know to clip Box Tops anytime they see them. Then just put them in a Ziploc bag with your child’s name and teacher on the outside and send them in to the school. We will be having monthly contests throughout the year. The first contest deadline is September 28th. The top winner from grades K-2 and 3-5 will win a $25 gift card to Toys R Us! So get clipping! If we reach our school wide goal of 100,000 by March 1st the entire school will get to take part in a grand prize!

A representative from IDENT-A-KID will be at school on Sept. 27th to take photos for those who want to participate. An order form came home in Friday Folders. This optional service will create a photo identification card for your child to be used in case of an emergency.

Our next spirit night will be at Fuddrucker’s on Woodruff Road on Sept. 25th from 5-8 pm. Some Bethel students will be calling out orders and waiting tables so it’s bound to be a fun night. Boosterthon Fun Run
Boosterthon Fun Run students will be “on the road to good choices.” On the road of life, students will be faced with a lot of choices to make, and Highway USA teaches them to make the choices that count. Highway USA will crisscross our students all over America, visiting cities and landmarks, and learning about five historical leaders who made the right choice at one time in their lives. Here’s a look at the Highway USA Choice Challenges and the Highway Heroes:

LEADERSHIP—Students will choose “Leadership.” Students will be learning about how Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. saw a need to help people, stood up as the leader, and empowered others.

CHARACTER—Students will choose “Character.” Students will learn about President Abraham Lincoln and the story of how he earned his nickname of “Honest Abe” with just one small, but impactful decision to do the right thing when no one was looking.

LEARNING—Students will also choose “Learning.” Thomas Edison stands as a great example. With over 1,000 patents, he shows us what it means to ask questions, learn, and contribute knowledge.

FITNESS—Students will choose “Fitness.” With the rise of childhood obesity in the U.S. and the great benefits fitness has on learning, we are excited to introduce students to someone they may never have heard of before. Glenn Cunningham was an amazing Olympic runner in the 1930s, setting three world records. For some students, choosing to be active is just tough, but we hope that when they meet Glenn, his story will inspire them to choose fitness.

A GOOD ATTITIDE—Students will choose “A Good Attitude.” Students will learn about pilot Amelia Earhart and her bold attitude to do what no man, or woman, had ever done before—take the longest route to circle the entire globe in an airplane.

Students will continue to collect pledges and participate in the Fun Run on September 20 at Bethel. Parents are encouraged to attend the Fun Run for their child’s grade level on September 20 – K5/1st (8:15-9:15), 2nd/3rd & PMA (9:25-10:25), and 4th/5th & IMA (10:35-11:35).  You won’t want to miss it!

Our next spirit night will be at Fuddrucker’s on Woodruff Road on Sept. 25th from 5-8 pm. Some Bethel students will be calling out orders and waiting tables so it’s bound to be a fun night. PTA will get 10% of our sales plus tips that are given to “our” waiters.  Come join us at our next spirit night and help support the Bethel PTA!
