Please Remember...
Nourishing meals are prepared daily in our school cafeteria. Students may eat the school lunch, or they may bring a lunch from home. Students are not allowed to have fast food and/or carbonated drinks. Thank you for supporting our healthy meals initiative!

Boosterthon Fun Run
Boosterthon Fun Run students will be “on the road to good choices.” On the road of life, students will be faced with a lot of choices to make, and Highway USA teaches them to make the choices that count. Highway USA will crisscross our students all over America, visiting cities and landmarks, and learning about five historical leaders who made the right choice at one time in their lives. Here’s a look at the Highway USA Choice Challenges and the Highway Heroes:

LEADERSHIP—Students will choose “Leadership.” Students will be learning about how Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. saw a need to help people, stood up as the leader, and empowered others.

CHARACTER—Students will choose “Character.” Students will learn about President Abraham Lincoln and the story of how he earned his nickname of “Honest Abe” with just one small, but impactful decision to do the right thing when no one was looking.

LEARNING—Students will also choose “Learning.” Thomas Edison stands as a great example. With over 1,000 patents, he shows us what it means to ask questions, learn, and contribute knowledge.

FITNESS—Students will choose “Fitness.” With the rise of childhood obesity in the U.S. and the great benefits fitness has on learning, we are excited to introduce students to someone they may never have heard of before. Glenn Cunningham was an amazing Olympic runner in the 1930s, setting three world records. For some students, choosing to be active is just tough, but we hope that when they meet Glenn, his story will inspire them to choose fitness.

A GOOD ATTITIDE—Students will choose “A Good Attitude.” Students will learn about pilot Amelia Earhart and her bold attitude to do what no man, or woman, had ever done before—take the longest route to circle the entire globe in an airplane.

Students will continue to collect pledges and participate in the Fun Run on September 20 at Bethel. Parents are encouraged to attend the Fun Run for their child’s grade level on September 20 – K5/1st (8:15-9:15), 2nd/3rd & PMA (9:25-10:25), and 4th/5th & IMA (10:35-11:35).  You won’t want to miss it!

Our next spirit night will be at Fuddrucker’s on Woodruff Road on Sept. 25th from 5-8 pm. Some Bethel students will be calling out orders and waiting tables so it’s bound to be a fun night. PTA will get 10% of our sales plus tips that are given to “our” waiters.  Come join us at our next spirit night and help support the Bethel PTA!

Participate in PTA Reflections

Ident-a-Kid
A representative from IDENT-A-KID will be at school on Sept. 27th to take photos for those who want to participate. An order form will come home at least a week in advance. This optional service will create a photo identification card for your child to be used in case of an emergency.

JOIN IN ON THE BOX TOPS FUN!!!
We have a school wide goal of collecting 100,000 Box Tops. That would mean $10,000 for our school!  Get your neighbors, friends, coworkers, aunts, uncles, grandparents and anyone else you know to clip Box Tops anytime they see them. Then just put them in a Ziploc bag with your child’s name and teacher on the outside and send them in to the school. We will be having monthly contests throughout the year. The first contest deadline is September 28th. The top winner from grades K-2 and 3-5 will win a $25 gift card to Toys R Us! So get clipping!

Subway wanted you to know they have taken a new approach for this year’s back-to-school, health-focused program for students in elementary and middle schools. Local Subway restaurants have joined with a Coordinated Approach to Child Health (CATCH) and The Jared Foundation to launch the “Fresh Start Challenge.” Kids ages 5 to 14 can participate with parent permission by tracking their good diet and exercise activities. Winners will be selected by random drawing to receive a sub party for their class and $1,000 fitness grant for their school. Two winners will be chosen in each participating market area. The program will begin August 6 and run through September 30, 2012.

Program information is now available at participating Subway restaurants in your area or online at www.subwayfreshstart.com. We appreciate your passing along the information on the 2012 Subway Fresh Start Challenge to people who may be interested in participating.

Thank you for your help in promoting healthy habits!
